| Things to do
Activities
Relaxing, soaking up the surrounding views, reading,
chatting, sipping a local wine are my kind of activities.
However, here are some suggestions for various other
things to do, many which we can organise for you.
Wine tours
Interested in wine? How about a day devoted to it? Learn
about how grapes are grown in our valley. We can personally
escort you on a tour of a nearby cantina/wine producer
, where you may also taste the wines
Hiking
The Sibillini Mountains offer lots of opportunities
for walking. We have a detailed map of the Sibillini
national park, which you may borrow, and we can suggest
some routes to try out and if you wish accompany you
on your trip. Check out website www.sibillini.net
for info etc.
Driving tour
We can suggest scenic routes. Experience the hill top
villages and the stunning scenery of the area. Drive
to Lago Fiastra in the mountains, picnic by the lake
and swim in the cool water.
Horseriding
About 20 minutes away is a riding stable. We can arrange
for you to do a morning’s riding, maybe followed
by lunch at the adjacent restaurant. They offer riding
lessons and excursions on horseback.
Hang gliding/paragliding
Near Sarnano about 45 minutes away from Casa Montalto
is a club, which run day courses and tandem flights.
Something for the children
About half an hour away is a go-cart fun park with tracks
for toddlers to teens. About an hour away is an aqua
park with water slides etc. Most villages and towns
have good public playgrounds.
Summertime
Opera
Macerata open-air festival (1.5 hrs from Casa Montalto)
Make a day of it, as the opera doesn’t start until
late.

for information and tickets.
Festas
July/August is street party time. Nearly every village
has them and if you enter into the local spirit they
are great fun. Food and wine is cheap and plentiful,
all generations join in the fun, even the line dancing!
Montalto and nearby Castignano have some great festas:
Templaria Festival –
Castignano
This takes place mid August Four days of medieval shows,
exhibitions and banquets. The theme is the knights Templar
and the history and myths that surround them. Dan Brown
fans eat your heart out!
Fairies and witches
Festival – Montalto
15th August is when we have our local family festival.
The old town is transformed into a childrens fantasy
world. The locals decorate their houses, dress up and
create amazing scenes from children’s stories.
Shows, games, fireworks, food and drink.
Markets/antique markets
Our local market is Wednesday mornings. Though not huge
there are always bargains to be had such as shoes and
linens.
Fermo – Thursday evenings throughout the summer
is an antique/bric abrac market.
Grottamare – antique market along the promenade
in Summer.
There are many more markets to visit.
